Below, Vincent Mays provides advice based on his professional experiences for four things to get rid of this spring season to allow yourself more time to focus on your goals for growth and self improvement.
Lose the Technology
In this day and age, technology is a massive part of our lives. We feel the need to always be connected and a break from social media or other online platforms is not even an option. This addiction wreaks havoc on our minds, and you may not even realize how much social media skews our thoughts on the world and ourselves. The constant viewing of the highlights of people’s lives can cause resentment, jealousy, and a lot of judgement. Do yourself a favor and unplug from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms for a few days. While it may be challenging to stay away at first, you will soon feel great relief realizing you don’t need to constantly check up what’s going on elsewhere so you can really focus on what you are doing in the moment.
Lose the Noise
The world is loud. You may be dealing with traffic from a big city, the noise from family, or the constant barrage of communication from your job, whatever it may be, everyone is dealing with a constant buzz of noise. Take a step back and step away from the noise every day for a few minutes. A set time to be in silence for 10 minutes and reflect on everything may be all you need to have a healthier mentality. Go for a quiet hike, meditate, do some yoga or simply sit in a silent room and just be still. You may be surprised with how much this helps ease your mind.
Lose the Laziness
One of the best things to do to clean your mind is to move around. Any form of getting off your couch and moving does wonders for your mental health. It is hard to be depressed or stressed when you are constantly moving and engaging in activities. Ideally, a form of exercise for at least 30 minutes can improve your mood, mentality, daily motivation, and self-esteem. If you do not have time to exercise, simply go for a walk for 10 minutes and enjoy the fresh air. Staying stagnant and sitting on a couch or in bed can be poisonous for your mind and can affect every part of your life negatively.
Lose the Bad Diet
Adopting a new diet, even one or two days a week, can produce massively positive results for your mental health. Junk food can create negative thoughts, make you feel lethargic, and may lead you down a spiral of bad food choices that will affect your physical health. Choosing the healthier option can increase energy, improve motivation, improve your skin, and give you the proper boost you need throughout the day.
Taking on these tips can help clear your mind, giving you a similar feeling to when you finally clean out the garage of clutter that has been sitting there for months. Take action towards improving your mental health today!
